Beverly Hills Means Fun In The Sun… Damage and Skin Damage
September 12th, 2008
As summer comes to a close, you may notice that you have a few more freckles or even wrinkles than you did at this time last year. That’s because while you may walk away from the beach with a suntan, that’s not all you’re getting. Excessive sun exposure is responsible for most of the skin damage associated with aging. This sun damage accumulates slowly over time and starts at an early age.

Wrinkles, freckles, age spots, and other sun damage can make youthful skin appear aged. Clients of Beverly Hills Aesthetics can attest to the fact that sun spots and skin damage but can be reversed by following a proper skin care regimen.
For outdoor sun exposure, the general rule of thumb is that whichever sun protection factor (SPF) you are wearing will protect you from burning on a time-related scale.
Let’s do the math.
Assume without sunscreen your sun exposure threshold is 10 minutes before getting sunburned. A sunscreen with a SPF 20 rating would allow you to stay in the sun for 200 minutes or 20 times the period that your skin would usually burn without sun protection.
However, most of us don’t know how long we take to burn and this formula doesn’t account for swimming or sweating. So, unless you stay out of the sun completely, some sun damage is inevitable but not irreversible.
Beverly Hills Aesthetics’ Dr. Sam Assassa uses peels , Fotofacial, Photopeel and other treatments regularly to reverse the signs of sun damage. For more information on treatments that turn back the clock on sun damage, click here.
